Founded in 1985, Gobinda Prasad Mahavidyalaya stands as a distinguished higher education institution in Amarkanan, Bankura district, West Bengal, dedicated to providing comprehensive education to economically disadvantaged and underprivileged students in this remote region. Named after the revered Gobinda Prasad Singha, a notable freedom fighter and social activist, it serves as the sole higher educational institution in this area, catering to the educational needs of students.Initially affiliated with the University of Burdwan, the college has been affiliated with Bankura University since 2017.Gobinda Prasad Mahavidyalaya impartially disseminates not only academic knowledge but also imparts wisdom that can transform rural youth into ideal citizens of modern India. The distinctly rural yet peaceful surroundings provide an ideal setting for an educational institution.

From its humble beginnings on the grounds of AmarkananDeshbandhuVidyalaya, the college transitioned to its own premises in 1987, nestled in a serene and green environment. Since then, this college has been dedicated to nurturing rural students who, after completing their foundational education, aspire to a bright future, equipped with the values imparted to them. The college is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under sections 2(f) and 12(B). In its first NAAC cycle in 2017, the college was accredited with a B+ grade.

Gobinda Prasad Mahavidyalaya currently offers nine undergraduate programs, including B.A. Majors in Bengali, English, History, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Political Science, Education, Physical Education, and Sports, and B.Sc. Major in Geography. The minor subjects include Bengali, English, History, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Political Science, Education, Physical Education and Sports, Geography, Mathematics, and Economics. Additionally, the college offers short-term certificate courses focused on contemporary and skill-oriented themes to complement its regular degree programs.
